Martha S. Boyd, age 81 years, a resident of Rt. 1, Elkins, the Chenoweth Creek Road, passed away at 2:30 AM Friday, January 20, 2006 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She was born June 19, 1924 at Cowen, WV a daughter of the late John and Elsie Henderson Fletcher. On Oct. 2, 1955 at Cowen, she was married to Vernon R. Boyd who survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathleen ”Sally” Blake of Salem, Ohio, Freda Sharp of Cowen, WV and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Howard, Huling, Harry, Ray and Lester Fletcher and four sisters, Jocie Bird, Gertrude Wilson, Ida McCumbers and Lucy Dodrill.
Mrs. Boyd was a graduate of Cowen High School, attended the University of Maryland and the Baltimore Business College. She was employed as a Journalist for the Associated Press and retired as a Clerical Advisor for Western Union. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, January 22, 2006 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 23rd from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. Interment will follow in the Beverly Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the We Care Group of the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Boyd.
