William Graig “Bill” Carr, 62, of Terrace Avenue, Elkins died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 1st, of cancer.
Bill was a realtor for Propst Realty of Elkins and former President of the Marja Broadcasting Corporation and manager of WDNE in Elkins.
A son of the late John Pershing Carr and Martha Ferguson Carr, Bill was born May 2, 1947 in Lancaster, Ohio. In 1955 his family moved to Elkins. Bill is survived by one brother, Jay Ferguson Carr and wife, Carol of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania and one sister, Martha Lin “Marnie” Holden and husband, Dick of Timonium, Maryland. Bill had three nephews, Chad Carr of Boston, MA, Van Ryan Haden of Ithaca, NY and Jon-Marc Haden of Richmond, VA, and one niece, Kristen Ross of Boca Raton, FL. He also had a great-niece, Ainsley Ross, and. a great-nephew, Graham Ross. Bill leaves behind his faithful dog and companion, Bozeman.
Bill attended Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio and later graduated from Davis & Elkins College with a degree in psychology. He was active in the Tygart Valley Lions Club and Rotary International. He also served on the board of the Elkins YMCA and was a member of the National Association of Realtors.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill loved fishing, hiking and backpacking in the mountains of West Virginia, Montana and Yellowstone National Park where he enjoyed his annual retreat for more than 25 years—“getting away from family and friends” as he liked to say. He was also an outstanding cook and known for his mischievous sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s honor to the Elkins YMCA, 400 Davis Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 or the Randolph County Humane Society, P.O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241.
Friends will be received from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. The Tomblyn funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for William G. “Bill” Carr. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
