Mr. Billy Joe Phillips, age 77 years, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away Wednesday morning, October 7, 2009 in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He was born June 15, 1932 at Kerens, WV, a son of the late Herman Phillips and the late Erma Wood Baughman. He was married to Lillian Tucker Phillips who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Diana Lynn Medlin and husband Kevin of Florida, three step sons, Darryl Phillips, Rick Taylor and Randy Patrick and wife Madonna, two step daughters, Sharon Schutte and husband Rick and Karon Nichols and husband Louie and one grandson, Austin Medlin and wife Chelsea.
Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School and attended West Virginia University during 1951 and 1952. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was employed as a Business Representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union in California at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Elkins.
Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 12, 2009 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Houser officiating. Interment will follow in the Mingo Cemetery.
