Obituary:
Mary Alice Vanorsdale, age 88 years, a resident of Elkins, departed this life to enter into eternal life, Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins. She had been in failing health for the past several weeks. She was born June 11, 1921 at Petersburg, WV a daughter of the late Clare Lemone Lord and the late Jane Leo Smith Lord. On February 7, 1940 at Monterey, VA, she was married to B. William“Bill” Vanorsdale who survives in Elkins. They shared 69 wonderful years together. Also surviving is a daughter, Cynda Vanorsdale and partner Julianne Jacques of Roeland Park, KS. and Libby Jane Nicholson Edmundson, a niece who was raised like a daughter of the Vanorsdales, of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also preceding her in death was her only sister, Virginia Mae Marshal. Mary Alice’s greatest joy was taking care of her family’s needs. She participated in Weight Watchers and Circle 3 of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and quilting and attended the First United Methodist Church of Elkins since moving to Elkins in 1966. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Friday, October 23rd she will be moved to the First United Methodist Church where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM. Rev. Barry Moll and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate. Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. Friday in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Petersburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mrs. Vanorsdale.
