Annie Cowen ”Nancy” McDiarmid Kittle, age 86 years, a resident of East Dailey, and for the past five years a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, passed away at 6:15 AM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in Nella’s Nursing Home. She was born September 16, 1923 at Semphore, South Australia, a daughter of the late Archibald Dunlop McDiarmid and the late Martha Barr McDiarmid of Adelaide, South Australia. On March 30, 1943, she was married to Squire B. Kittle whom she met during World War II in Mannum, South Australia. In May of 1946, Mrs. Kittle traveled by boat to the United States and then by train to West Virginia to begin her life with her husband in Mill Creek. They had been married 63 years before Mr. Kittle’s death on October 22, 2006.
Mrs. Kittle was a member of the first organized Cancer Care Corp in the United States and was a former employee of Reidbord Sewing Factory. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting and smocking dresses for her granddaughters. Mrs. Kittle became a Citizen of the United States in July of 1999. She was a Christian by Faith and a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by five children, Squire I. Kittle and wife Mona, Mill Creek, Janet M. McCloud and husband Danny, East Dailey, Robert W. Kittle and wife Linda, Warren, OH, Barbara A. Kazulen and husband Tony, Uniontown, PA. and Donald John Kittle and wife Pam, Alliance, OH. One brother, Jim McDiarmid and wife Margaret, Renown Park, South Australia, two loving sisters-in-law, Betty Kimbrew, Elkins and Lenora Kidd and husband Richard, Pharr, TX, grandchildren, Sheila Aberegg and Susan Kittle, Cindy Rosencrance and Danny McCloud, Jr., Rob Kittle,Tony Kazulen, II, Christopher Kazulen and Natalie Major, Connie Shobe and Jason Kittle and a step grandson, Jamieson Mills. Also surviving are twelve great grandchildren, Matthew and Brandon Aberegg, Celeste and Bryan Rosencrance, Nathan and Jeremy McCloud, Logan Mills, Justin and Joshua Kazulen and Haley, Austin and Jaidyen Shobe, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive in South Australia, West Virginia and elsewhere. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Ian and George McDiarmid and one sister, May Kilpatrick all of South Australia.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bernard Teter officiating. At the request of the deceased her remains will then be cremated. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mrs. Kittle.
