Obituary:
Margaret Elizabeth Dudley Crowson, age 90 years, a resident of Easy Street, Elkins, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2009 at her home. She was born December 26, 1918 at Westville, Illinois, a daughter of the late Sam and May Blanche Wolff Dudley. She was married to Lester Crowson who preceded her in death on January 15, 1995. Surviving are one daughter, Pamela Crowson Dodds of Montrose, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death was one sister, May Blanche Dugas. Mrs. Crowson moved to Washington, DC in 1944 to work as a civilian secretary for the U.S. Navy Department and for the Joint Chiefs of Staff during World War II. She married Lester Crowson in 1945 in Washington, DC and later worked as an Executive Secretary for various Commissioners of the Federal Maritime Commission. Mrs. Crowson was an active volunteer at church through the years, helping as the church secretary and with the church nursery. While in Elkins, she attended the Calvary Baptist Church. At the request of the deceased her remains were cremated. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Ralph Andrus will officiate and interment of the cremains will follow at a later date in the Salem-Seminole Baptist Cemetery in Desser, Georgia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, PO Box 950, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the Animal Friends of Barbour County, PO Box 452, Philippi, WV 26416 in memory of Mrs. Crowson.
