Haymond D. Spicer, age 83 years, a resident of the Gateway Apartments, 8B, Elkins, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born August 17, 1926 at Newville, WV a son of the late Dewey Spicer and the late Florence Gray Bright Spicer. On July 4, 1947 in Elkins he married Lucille Skidmore Spicer who survives in Elkins. Also surviving are two sons, Harley “Robin” Spicer and Mark “Meatball” Spicer both of Elkins. Two daughters, Patricia Ruth Hamrick and Elizabeth Diane Jackson both of Elkins, one brother, Hadren Spicer, Louisville, KY, three sisters, Freda Tatterson, Fairmont, WV, Lou Glenna Miller, Knightdale, NC, Mary Nell Chafin, Fayetteville, NC, nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding him in death was one son, Haymond Guy “Dog” Spicer, one brother, Hartzel Spicer, one sister, Gayola Spicer and one daughter, Linda Lucille Spicer.
Haymond was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy Cee Bee’s serving during World War II. He was a member of the Red Men’s Club, Life Member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was employed by Atlantic Seaboard Gas Company and was one of the first employees of the Randolph County Emergency Squad where he retired with twenty-plus years of service. He was an avid golfer, a West Virginia University Mountaineer Fan and a Pittsburgh Steeler Fan.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, Nov. 2nd from the funeral home chapel.
Rev. Pam Schuman will officiate and interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Haymond D. Spicer.
