Carrie E. Davis Marchant Pitman, age 86 years, a resident of Dartmoor, Barbour County, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 at her home. She was born January 26, 1923 at Whitmer, a daughter of the late Rumsey and Rosa Pennington Davis. She was twice married, first in 1947 to Charles Freddy Marchant who preceded her in death in November 1962. In 1966, she married Robert J. Pitman which ended in divorce in 1977. Surviving are two sons, Tim of Pennsylvania and Bobby of Florida. Also surviving is one sister, Ella Strawder of Glady, two nieces, Delma Jean Beveridge and Brenda McCauley, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Robert, Delmer, Clement and Clinton Davis and three sisters, Stella Weese, Rachel Davis and Nellie Bennett.
Mrs. Pitman was a homemaker and a Baptist by Faith.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins, at which time she will be moved to the Mountain State Memorial Gardens where a graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon. Pastor Bryan Headley
will officiate and interment will follow. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Carrie E Davis Marchant Pitman. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
