Londa Mae Tomblin Rigney, age 84 years, a long time teacher in the schools of Tucker County and a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2009 at her home. She was born October 11, 1925 at Gilmer County, WV, a daughter of the late Arthur and Emsy Canfield Tomblin. On August 23, 1947, at Annapolis, MD, she married Raymond Leroy Rigney who preceded her in death January 2, 1953. She is survived by one son, Raymond Arthur Rigney, of Colbert, WA and one daughter, Margaret Ann Rigney Ice, of Valley Bend. Three brothers, Joe F. Tomblin, of Kansas City, MO, George L. Tomblin, of Burnsville, WV and E. Monroe Tomblin, of Pennsboro, WV. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Scott Rigney, Amy Rigney Platt, Hannah Rigney, Lucy Ice Ringer, Lee Ice and Stephen Ice and one great grandchild, Jovie Platt. Also preceding her in death were one son, Leroy Andrew Rigney, one sister, Orneda Tomblin Mick and one brother, James F. Tomblin.
Mrs. Rigney graduated from Glenville State College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, AAUW, Parsons Women’s Club, NEA, WVEA, TCEA and the West Virginia Writers Association. She retired from teaching with the schools of Tucker County.
Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 4th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bonnie Starkey officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Baltimore National Cemetery in Baltimore, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mrs. Rigney.
