Lemma Jean Currence, age 67 years, a former resident of Elkins and a resident of the Rosewood Nursing Home at Grafton since 2001, passed away Friday Evening, December 4, 2009 at the nursing Home. She was born April 28, 1942 at Valley Head, a daughter of the late William Hugh Currence, Sr. and Lemma Louise Hickman Currence. Surviving is one sister, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Schoonover and husband Steward W. Schoonover, Sr. of Elkins, one brother, William Hugh Currence, Jr. and wife Eleanor June Currence, Deltona, FL, one niece and several nephews. Also preceding her in death was one sister, Patricia Whetsell.
Ms. Currence attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker and a Presbyterian by Faith. She enjoyed country music, especially Kenny Rogers.
Friends may call from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. J. Gregg Hickman officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.
