Opal M. Rhea, age 85 years, a former resident of Files Creek Road, Beverly and a resident of East Dailey, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2009 at the home of her daughter, Janice Carter, with whom she lived. She was born April 24, 1924 at Dailey, a daughter of the late George Edward and Margaret Chewning Hinzman. On July 1, 1978 at Coalton, she was married to Hubert Clark Rhea who preceded her in death October 24, 1992. She is survived by three sons, Jack Tunning, Jacksonville, FL, Bill Carter and Rick Carter, both of Coalton. Three daughters, Fern Carter, Elkins, Janice Carter, East Dailey and Bonnie Hagan, Brunswick, MD.,one brother, Rev. Parker Lee Hinzman, Shepherdstown, MD, fifteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Hazel Cost and Mary Daniels and six brothers, Joseph, Glen, Ray, Paul, Bill, and Dick Hinzman.
Mrs. Rhea attended the schools of Tygart Valley, was a homemaker and had volunteered with the Adopt a Highway Program for eight years. She was a member of the Randolph Rebekah Lodge No. 200 of Beverly and the Beverly United Methodist Church where she was a member of the church choir.
Friends may call from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mrs. Rhea.
