Obituary:
Ray Stokes Collett, age 82 years, a resident of East Dailey, passed away Sunday evening, December 13, 2009 at his home. He had been critically ill for the past two weeks. He was born December 22, 1926 at Lander, MD a son of the late Glenn Rex Collett and the late Evelyn Stokes Collett. On January 28, 1947 at the Woodford Church in Elkins, he was married to Lorena Ruth Swecker who survives at East Dailey. Also surviving are six children, John Thomas Collett and companion Joyce Wickline, Beverly, Terry Ray Collett and wife Sandy, East Dailey, Charles Rex “Chuck” Collett and wife Pansy,Mill Creek, Brenda Jean Pritt and husband Kenny, Beverly, Richard Eugene “Dick” Collett and wife Jeannie of East Dailey and Lisa Irene Lewis and husband Dave of Beverly. Eight grandchildren,Tracy Ratliff, Brian Collett, Shelley Collett, Gwynne Collett, Derrick Pritt, Jeff Pritt, Nicholas Lewis and Maria Lewis, three step grandchildren, Brenda Vanscoy, Chris Heflen and Brandy Williams, nine great grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, three sisters, Eileen Price, East Dailey, Delores Kerns, Columbia, SC and Janet Swecker, East Dailey and several nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Junior Collett and Tommy Collett. Ray loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends. Mr. Collett was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the Class of 1945. He was employed by Cupp’s Applicances & LP, Sealtest Company and was self employed as the owner of the Dailey Service Center Esso Station. He worked as a bus driver for the Randolph County Schools for 25 years retiring in 1989. Ray was also the owner of Collett’s Refrigeration Service. He attended the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 55 A.F. & A.M., Beverly Chapter No 23 Royal Arch Masons and Pilgrim Commandery No. 21 Knights of Templer. Ray was an Honorary Member of the Tygart Valley Fire Department and was one of the first members of the department. He held the office of Chief of the Tygart Valley Fire Department for six years and was a member of the Tygart Valley Lions Club during the 1960’s. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Wednesday, December 16th he will be moved to the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman where a graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM. Rev. Leon Brown and Jim Price will officiate and interment will follow. Randolph Lodge No. 55 A.F & A.M. will conduct gravesite rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tygart Valley Fire Department, PO Box 50, Dailey, WV 26259 in memory of Mr. Collett.
