Robert Junior “June” Harman, age 82, a resident of Harman, passed away at 12:46 A.M. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Ocala, FL. He was born April 25, 1927 at Harman, a son of the late Daniel Robert Harman and Irene Mae Parsons Harman. He was formerly married to Dora Mae Judy Harman who passed away in 1989. Surviving are one son, Jim Harman and wife Pat of Silver Springs, FL and four daughters, Chris Curtis and husband Randy of Charleston, WV, Deni Cooper and husband Jeff of Mill Creek, Rena Cardenas and husband Miguel of Rocky Mount, NC and Rita Long and husband Bill of Parsons. One brother, Jack Harman of Jacksonville, FL, one sister, Mary Mae Henderson of Harman, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Harman had a great love of music and at nine years of age, bought his first Banjo with money he earned from working in the hay fields and odd jobs. At 13 years of age, he worked oiling a steam shovel
for his grandfather, Norval Parsons and drove his uncle, Dr. Dan Harman to house calls in the Harman and Pendleton County areas. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the United States Navy Air Guard. He was co-owner of H and H Auctions and Harman Equipment Sales, both located at Harman. He was a founding member of the Harman Volunteer Fire Department and helped with the construction of the fire station.
Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Harman Church of the Brethren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 2nd at the Church with Rev. Robert Wenger officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Elkins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Harman Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 3, Harman, WV 26270.
