Troy Wilbur Phillips, age 75 years, a resident of the Glenmore Community, departed this life Saturday morning, January 9, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness of 20 years with Multiple Myeloma also known as bone cancer. He was under the care of Mountain Hospice.
He was born September 26, 1934 on Whitman Road in Barbour County, a son of the late French M. Phillips and Etta P. Bartlett Phillips. On January 9, 1965 at Elkins, he was united in marriage to Nila Glee Bell who survives. He is also survived by one sister, Agatha Schoonover of Midway Road, Barbour County and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by one brother, Estle W. Phillips, one half-brother, Jesse W. Phillips, two half-sisters, Glenda Row and Ersie Godwin, one step-sister, Kathleen Davis and one niece, Martha Schoonover Phillips.
Mr. Phillips attended the schools of Barbour County and was a 1953 Graduate of Belington High School.
He worked at Allegheny Lumber Company, Davis Electric, H.B. Moore Associates, Tygart Electric Company and was employed as a master electrician until he became disabled due to illness. He was in the Army National Guard Battery A. 1st Howitzer, 201st Artillery with the rank of Sgt. E5 for six years before receiving an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Goff Street Church of Christ and also had attended the Belington Church of Christ. He loved his nieces and nephews, classic cars, working on tractors and bluegrass music.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2009 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 13th from the funeral home chapel with Ron Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in the Bell Cemetery at Kelly Mountain. Full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
