Mr. Owen Talbott Pingley, age 86 years, a resident of the Hazelwood Community, departed this life at 2:50 AM Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home. He was born September 4, 1923 at Dailey, the youngest son of the late John Nelson and Margaret Elizabeth Caplinger Pingley. On November 4, 1967 at Elkins, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Rhodes Pingley, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Betty McCartney of Morgantown, WV and Neva Abbot of Rockville, MD, four nieces, Jo Ellen Toothman, Charles Town, WV, Nancy Trouts and husband Arnold, Mt. Perry, OH, Brenda Alexander, Pacific Palisades, CA, Jennifer Tschetter and husband Emery, Brookings, SD and two nephews, Wayne Kennedy, Elkins and Waldo Abbot of Greenwich, CT. One sister-in-law, Helen Stalnaker of the Hazelwood Community also survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Austin Pingley, one sister, Cleo Kennedy; one niece, Margaret Combo and one nephew, Bobby Pingley.
Mr. Pingley was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1942. He was a farmer and was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Elkins, Marion, Indiana and Ripley, WV, retiring in 1985 with 31 years of service. Mr. Pingley enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery from which he won many awards and trophies from the Mississinewa Archery Club in Marion, Indiana. He was a member and trustee of the Beverly Presbyterian Church.
Friends may call at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour. Rev. JoAnne Glasser will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beverly Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 206, Beverly, WV 26253.
