Obituary:
Myrtle Mae Sites Carr, 76, a resident of Norton, and formerly from Whitmer, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past 3 years and death was attributed to heart failure. She was born at Norton on October 31, 1933, to the late Fred L. and Margaret Bennett Bodkins. On November 23, 1953, in Elkins, she was married to Elwood N. Sites, who preceded her in death on August 21, 1972. She later married Richard Carr who also preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Winifred Lambert and husband David of Wymer with whom she had resided for the past 5 months. One son, Elwood N. (Woodie) Sites II, Elkins. Also surviving are one grandson, Brandon Lambert, Wymer, two granddaughters, Christina Mullennex of Wymer, and Celeste Mullennex and husband James of Harman. One great-granddaughter, Chelsea Lambert, Wymer. One brother, Isaac Bodkins and wife Carolyn, sister-in-law Kathryn Bodkins all of Norton. Brothers-in-law Bruce Sites and wife Rosalee, Kingsport, Tennessee and Paul Sites and wife Peggy of Tonopah, Arizona. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Bodkins, and one brother Richard N. Bodkins. Myrtle was a 1950 graduate of Coalton High School and then worked for G. C. Murphy and Runner Funeral Home. After marrying Elwood, she moved to Whitmer where she was a clerk for Sites Supply Company and was also a post office clerk. She had also worked for Family Health Service. In 1971, she, along with her husband, Elwood, purchased the Sites Supply Company and she was appointed postmaster. She was the leader of the Whitmer Mountaineer 4-H Club for many years where she assisted her members in gathering leaves and flowers for their blue ribbon projects as well as coaching them in cooking and other projects, and was a member of the Whitmer United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in many activities of the church for many years. While a resident of Whitmer, she was a member of the ladies auxiliary to the Whitmer Volunteer Fire Department. She was a former employee of Davis Memorial Hospital and Mullenax Personal Care Home and Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed her flower gardens and watching the deer, chickens, turkeys, and fish at her daughter’s home in Wymer. She loved her pets, Cinnamon and Spunky. The family would like to express sincere thanks to all family members, friends, and neighbors for their assistance, love, and concern during their mother’s illness. Friends will be received from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel at 11:00 AM Monday, February 8th with Rev. Stella Faye Moyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer.
