Mr. William A. Workman, Jr. age 79 years, a resident of Montrose, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born July 12, 1930 in Elkins, a son of the late William A. Workman, Sr. and Virginia McCauley Workman. On March 29, 1953 at Kerens, he was married to Alma Mae Canfield Workman who preceded him in death August 29, 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Workman Douglas of Kerens, Terry K. Mallow and husband Leon of Montrose and two sons, William A. Workman, III and wife Jacqueline of Elkins and Roy Workman of Elkins. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Boyd Badgett, Jessica Workman, William Workman and George Mallow, four step grandchildren, one great granddaughter, Katelynn Mullenax and three step great grandchildren. Mr. Workman was a Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in Korea obtaining the rank of Sergeant and retired from Western Maryland Railroad after thirty five years of employment. He was a member of the Israel United Methodist Church and had served as Treasurer and Trustee of the church. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Southern States, Elkins Lodge No. 108, AF & AM, Tygart Valley Shrine Club, Randolph Chapter No. 74, Order of the Eastern Star, Brac Clerks Union, Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department and HW Daniels Post 29, American Legion.
Friends may call from 6:00 Pm until 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 11th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Israel Church Cemetery at Kerens. Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites follow by full military rites accorded by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the Israel United Methodist Church, Rt. 1, Box 29 Montrose, WV 26283 or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1645 W. Eighth Street, Erie, PA., 16505 in memory of Mr. Workman. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William A.
