Lawrence Clinton Guthrie, age 61 years, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away at 11:25 P.M. Friday, February 26, 2010 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born August 8, 1948 at Keyser, WV, a son of the late Robert Franklin Guthrie, Sr. and Eunice A. Reel Guthrie. On April 17, 1971 at Keyser, he was married to the former Marilyn Jean Rhodes who survives. Also surviving is one son, Shawn Thomas Guthrie and wife Shannon of Morgantown and one daughter Laura Ann Guthrie of Huttonsville. One brother, Robert F. Guthrie, Jr. of Bayard, WV, two sisters Ruth Ann Jones and husband Clark of Moundsville, Kathleen Lower and husband Jerry of Bayard, two grandchildren, Maggie and Owen Guthrie both of Morgantown and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Guthrie was a 1967 Graduate of Bayard High School and attended Potomac State College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired after 35 years of service from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. He was a member of Riverside Lodge 124, A.F. and A.M. of Cass, Grand Lodge of West Virginia Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Beni Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston. He was an avid sportsman who really enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Methodist by faith.
At Mr. Guthrie’s request, his remains were cremated. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Lodge 124, HC 69, Box 41, Valley Head,WV 26294 in memory of Mr. Guthrie. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
