James Edward Summerfield, age 59 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday morning, March 7, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. He was born July 29, 1950 in Elkins a son of the late Edward William and Bernice Louk Summerfield Jones. On October 7, 1973 he was married to Charlotte Mildred Edmond Summerfield who survives in Elkins. Also surviving are three daughters, Corena Dawn Summerfield and companion Kenneth Butcher of Harman, Tammy Michele Summerfield and companion Joseph L. Weese, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Summerfield all of Elkins. Four grandchildren, two sisters, Carolyn Doerr and Linda Simmons, both of Elkins and one brother, Guy Summerfield of Omaha, Nebraska also survive. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Johnie and Gary and two sisters, Kathleen Woody and Sarah Smith.
He enjoyed many activities including hunting and fishing and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a former member of the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 11th, 2010 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Sister Mary Ella Morrison, OP. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery near Beverly.
