Barbara Jane (Varner) Teter, 51, a resident of Beverly, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, at her home, with her family by her side. Barbara was born November 23, 1965, in Beverly, a Daughter to Jean Hart Varner and the late Bill Varner. On August 10, 1985 Barbara married the love of her life, Gregory Douglas Teter. Left to cherish her memory, Husband Greg, Daughter Shay Teter and Husband Jordan Hayes of Beverly, Daughter Larel Teter of Morgantown and Partner Terra McKenzie, Beloved mother Jean Varner of Beverly, Sisters; Christina Elbon of Beverly, Marsha and husband James Boehmer of Beverly and sister Jodie Varner and Boyfriend Christopher Hipp; several nieces and nephews and Barbara’s cherished “GrandDog” Simba Hayes. Preceding her death was Barbara’s father Bill Varner, and Mother-in-law Eleanor Teter. Barbara lived a full life; helping her community by working for the Randolph County Emergency Squad for over 25 years, was a beginning ski instructor at Canaan Valley, and worked for the Randolph County Board of Education for 20+ years. Barbara also enjoyed taking photographs of special events such as weddings, graduations, etc. for her family and friends. Barbara lived for 4-H, attended both county and state level 4-H camps throughout her childhood, and was a proud member of the Cherokee Tribe. Most recently Barbara earned her 30 year Volunteer Leader pin. As a leader, Barbara was a staff member/counselor at countless state level 4-H camps, where she passed on her love of 4-H to many others. During her many years with 4-H she held several prominent positions, including the Chief of the Alpha Chapter of the West Virginia 4-H All-Stars, being a co-coordinator of two very large fundraisers for 4-H, the “Outspoken” Bike Ride and “Hiking the 4-H Trail”. Barbara passed along her love of 4-H to both of her daughters and made many years of cherished memories with them. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 10th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Susie Metzner officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery near Beverly. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a 4-H Camp Scholarship which will be established in Barbara’s name so that she may pass her love of 4-H onto generations to come.
