Barbara Jean (Willoughby) Thornhill, age 79 years, of Alexandria, VA passed peacefully on July 1, 2019. She was the daughter of the late John Franklin Willoughby and Leola (Daft) Willoughby of Elkins. She was surrounded by the love of her husband, James Ray Thornhill, Sr., son of the late Lambert and Ethel (Joseph) Thornhill, of Elkins, also at her side were her sisters Mamie (Willoughby) Ghadimi of Tampa, FLA., Sharon (Willoughby) Melton of Charleston, WV, Connie (Willoughby) Wachsmuth of Waldorf, MD and her neice Kelly Armentrout of Alexandria, VA. Barbara was the granddaughter of the late Wilbur and Anna (Tacy) Daft of Dailey, WV. Barbara worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Department of the Navy and Department of Defense at the Pentagon. During her 30 years of service she had the privilege of meeting several sitting Presidents and receiving an award, in person, from President Bill Clinton. She sustained minor injuries during the 911 terror attack on the Pentagon. She was a devoted mother to her children, the late James Thornhill, Jr. of Alexandria and Tracey (Thornhill) Hausman, of Dublin, PA. She was also very devoted to her two grandsons, Daniel Hausman of Dublin, PA and Joshua Hausman and his wife Amanda of Pittsburgh, PA. Barbara would do any and everything to put a smile on someone’s face, she was not above zooming around on a Power Wheels car or having icing smeared on her while attempting to decorate an Easter Bunny cake. Those also mourning her death are her Son in Law Roy Hausman of Dublin, Sister in Law, Jacquline (Thornhill) Bright of Elkins, WV, Brothers in Law, Robert Bright of Elkins, Frank Ghadimi of Tampa, Fla, Leslie Melton of Charleston, WV and the Reverend Harry Wachsmuth of Waldorf, Md, Aunts and Uncles, Bill and Timmy Daft of Dailey, WV, Anna (Daft) Weese of Dailey and Sue (Flanagan) Daft of Elkins. Preceding her in death was her infant son, John Lambert Thornhill, Sisters LeAnne (Willoughby) Armentrout, of Alexandria, VA and Patricia (Moore) Brandt of Elkins, WV., Neice, Toni Lynn (Melton) Kidd, of Melbourne Fla. and Christian (Chris) Melton of Charleston. Barbara's memory will also be cherished by her many Neices and Nephews, Richard Ghadimi, Mary (Bright) Crowder, Lindsay Cowall, Jr., Robert Bright, Jr., Cynthia Wilson, David Moore, Cheryl Oaks and Kevin Armentrout. You will be forever in our hearts A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman with Deacon Raymond Godwin officiating. Interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary, North Hanover Mall, 1155 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA 17331 in memory of Barbara.
