Brett Lee Haddix Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Brett Lee Haddix, 51, of Eleanor, WV, passed away on January 19, 2022 after a brief illness. Death was unexpected. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of family and friends who loved him. Brett was born on February 24, 1970, to Valerie and Jerry Haddix in Elkins, WV. He loved all cars from Matchboxes to Ferraris. He was attending car shows with his dad from the time he could walk. He played tennis, soccer, and basketball for Elkins High School. He was an avid golfer and never missed a chance to tee off. After Brett graduated from Elkins High School in 1988, he attended Marshall University and Fairmont State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked in Public Industry or Private Accounting until his death. At one point he was revered as one of the best financial institution auditor/consultants in the state of West Virginia. The best day of his life was July 3, 1994, when his daughter Gabrielle was born. She was the light of his life and he believed she was the best thing he ever did. Brett resided with his life partner Jessica Machmer and was her husband in every sense of the word. They did all things Marshall together, had lively conversations and debates and planned for many years of travel together. For 30 years Brett has been an avid supporter of Marshall University Athletics through various avenues including but not limited to the Big Green Foundation as well as being a season ticket holder. Go Herd! Brett was a great cook and took immense pride in his Traeger Smoker. He believed he could have become a great chef if he had the time. He loved lobster with diver scallops and his mother Valerie’s Alabama biscuits. Brett loved his family and friends fiercely and is remembered for being a big-hearted guy. He was not afraid to show or share his emotions and was known to say “I love you” to everyone he cherished. Brett is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lee Haddix. Brett is survived by his partner, Jessica Machmer and their beloved dog, Harley; daughter, Gabrielle Lee Haddix; mother, Valerie Haddix; Aunts and Uncles: Cynthia and John Spencer, Paula Waters, William and Sara Gum, John and Cryss Fox, and Lisa Plum; Cousins: Nancy Spencer, Jeff Spencer, Stephanie Kirk, Amy Taylor, and The Cousin Club: William John Gadd, Adrienne Sherrill, Heather Gadd Samonte and Jill Fox; and so many more cousins and lifelong friends. He was the Pet Lamb of his Nana, Ida Jean Gum. Services for Brett will be private. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Brett Lee Haddix.
