Ivan Keith Schoonover Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ivan “Keith” Schoonover, age 65 years, a resident of the Chenoweth Creek Community, Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Keith was born August 27, 1950 and was the only son of the late Ivan Dale and Anna Mae Haymond Schoonover. On June 25, 1972 he married the love of his life, Kathy Jean Bennett Schoonover. They had celebrated forty three years of marriage. He is survived by one son, Jeremey Keith Schoonover and companion Susie of Elkins , four daughters, Deidre Suzanne Schoonover and Dominique MaKayla Gates at home, Marissa Kae Schoonover and companion Matt of Beverly and Karissa Mae and Louis Corder, Jr., of Elkins. Four grandsons, Austin Grant Himes of Beverly, Lukas Neil Corder, Branson Keith Corder and Aiden Tyler Channel of Elkins, one granddaughter, Monica Danielle Herndon and companion Dylan and one great granddaughter Carly Gail Delphey. Two sisters, Charlene Mae Fenstermacher of Elkins and Sharon McBee of Morgantown, two special aunts, Nellie Doerr of Elkins and Retha Bazzle of Ohio and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and a host of friends also survive. Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Oliver and Goldie Taylor Schoonover and Bill and Lucille Schoonover and a brother-in-law, Harold Lynn Fenstermacher. Keith attended the schools of Elkins. He started working in the woods with his grandfather at the age of fourteen. He worked as a trim saw operator in saw mills for many years and worked at Mongold Lumber Company, Coastal Lumber Company, Eastern Hardwood and Northwest Hardwood. He was a hard worker, good provider and an avid hunter who enjoyed being outside. He liked going to yard sales and flea markets and helped his wife sell at the flea market every summer. He loved his grandchildren very much and had attended Harts Chapel Church and the Elkins Church of the Brethren. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 22nd from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert L. Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown.
