Janet Mary Machesney

February 22, 1938 - January 28, 2022

Janet Mary Machesney, age 83 years, a resident of Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center in Elkins, WV, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at the West Virginia Caring Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born February 22, 1938 in Silver Run, MD, a daughter of the late Lee Garland and Lula Gertrude Myers Heltibridle. She is survived by her loving partner of 22 years, Michael Fletcher; children: Laura Machesney Evertsen of Atlanta, GA, Robert Allan Machesney of Clearwater, FL, Carol Ann Mainwood (Jim) of Jacksonville, FL, and David Andrew Machesney (Lisa) of Columbia, NJ; grandchildren: Melissa, Chaz, Cory, and Stephanie, and several great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Janet was the youngest of six children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Keith, Donald, Leon, and Robert Heltibridle; one sister, Mona Heltibridle Long; and one grandson Christopher Machesney. Janet was raised on a farm in Maryland and was an avid gardener. She loved animals, travel, her church, and playing the piano. She sang in the church choir and made many banners and costumes for church events. She was a wonderful mother, partner and friend and loved her family dearly. A kinder and gentler person you will never meet. Janet’s wish for cremation was honored. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Michael Lantz officiating. Masks and social distancing are requested by the family.
