Lawrence B. “Larry” Spencer, age 86 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at his home under the care of Mountain Hospice. He was born June 16, 1933 at Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Lantie Brooks Spencer and Reta Kesling Spencer Conrad. He was raised by his mother Reta and step-father Marian Conrad. On June 20, 1959 he was married to Sue Skidmore who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Spencer, Linda Haddix and husband Mark and Sandy Lanham and husband Leo, all of Elkins. One brother, Norman Spencer of Lexington, GA; two half-brothers, Frank & Garry Spencer of Ohio and one half-sister, Mary Johnston of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Amy Webster, Emily Haddix, Adam Haddix, Hannah Haddix, Ben Haddix and Danny Spencer. Larry was a graduate of Poca High School with the Class of 1952. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry A. Burgess officiating. Presentation of the American Flag will be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
