Loretta Giles “Toni” Herron, passed from this life on Thursday, October 14, 2021 under the Hospice care of West Virginia Caring. Born on December 9, 1932 in Hyden, Kentucky to Deloris Delmas “Dutch” and Mary Rose Cox Giles, Toni grew up in Weston and graduated from Weston High School in 1950. Later that year she married Willard Herron, to whom she was married (71) years. Toni was preceded in death by one son, Michael Delmas Herron, and is survived by one son, Stephen Lee Herron, publisher of the Inter-Mountain. She is survived by grandchildren Amy Herron, Rebecca Herron of Charlotte, North Carolina and Leia Drakeford (Kelvin) of Concord, North Carolina, four great-grandchildren Hudson Herron, K.J., Liam and Levi Drakeford, one daughter-in-law, Libby, whom Toni considered a daughter, one brother, George Willis “Bill” and (Donna) Giles, nieces, great-nephews and her special cousins to whom she considered more like sisters. Toni was a Den Mother to Cub Scouts. She was active in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, serving on their executive board and winner of the 1977 Membership Drive Award (which won a silver tea service for her Elkins club). She also served on the Executive Board of the Elkins YMCA for many years and was an early teacher of the women’s fitness classes there. In 1980 Toni was named the YMCA Volunteer of the Year – giving countless hours to serve others. She was also a charter member of the Randolph County Red Hat Society. For more than 60 years Toni was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, teaching young children in Sunday school and chairing Circle Five. Toni quilted baby blankets for countless children and was known for her apple dumplings and rolls that she made from scratch. Her passion was watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and WVU basketball. Most of all, Toni loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in Toni’s name or to a charitable organization of your choice. Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Sunday, October 17 at 2:00 PM at The American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery in Harpertown. The Rev. Brian L. Seders and Rev. Dr. Basil A.
