In loving memory of The Very Reverend Mark Thomas Gallipeau, V.F. age 61 years, Pastor of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, who passed away April 25, 2017 after a short illness. He leaves behind his daughter Tracey, his parents Mary and Robert Gallipeau and siblings David, Stephen, Erik and Susan. Father Mark graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville and then attended St. Vincent’s Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral by Bishop Michael J. Bransfield. During his priesthood Father Mark served the Catholic Parishes of St Francis Xavier, Parkersburg, WV, St. John Newman, Marlinton, WV, St. Mark’s Mission & St. Bernard Chapel at Snowshoe Mountain, Immaculate Conception, Montgomery, WV, St Anthony’s Shrine in Boomer, WV, St John’s in Belle, WV, Good Shepherd Mission in Colberg, WV, St Patrick’s in Coalton, St Brendan’s in Elkins, Presbyterial Council of Priests, Chaplain of Knights of Columbus, Elkins Council and Vicar Forane of Weston Vicariate. Prior to studying for and serving as a Priest, Father Mark also greatly enjoyed his years as a Pro Ski Instructor at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire and at Heavenly Valley, Reno, Nevada. Father Mark was born on Feb 15th, 1956 in Natick MA and also lived in Sudbury, MA and Groton, MA and graduated from Groton High School in 1974. From his early childhood he was known for his love of serving others and his love of outdoors. He was well known for his expert level performance as a Kayaker, a certified Ski Instructor of 30 years and a mountain biker. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Saint Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday at the church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Monday, May 1st followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. His Excellency, Bishop Michael J. Bransfield will be the main celebrant and the priests of the Diocese as concelebrants. Interment will immediately follow at Saint Brendan Cemetery. Anyone who may be interested in making a donation to Father Mark’s last great endeavour, the St. Brendan building debt reduction fund, by making a donation to St. Brendan’s Church, 181 St. Brendan’s Way, Elkins, WV. Father Mark will be greatly missed by his family, parish families and friends.
