Mrs. Mary Frances Lanford, age 90 years, a resident of the Jimtown Community, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born August 8, 1926 at Jimtown, WV a daughter of the late Dennis and Martha Broschart. On December 24, 1947, she was married to Richard Byrd Lanford who preceded her in death January 1, 2015. They had celebrated sixty seven years of marriage. Also surviving is one son, Richard Byrd Lanford, Jr. and wife Thelma of Jimtown, three daughters, Mary Elizabeth Johnson and husband Joe of Jimtown, Terry Jean Lanford and Gordon Ellison, Gambrills, MD and Anna Grace Blosser and husband Kevin of Coalton. Grandchildren surviving include Tammy Johnson, Jim Johnson and wife Karen, Heather Johnson and wife Buffy McAfee-Johnson, John Johnson, Melissa Daetwyler and husband Jimmy, Heath Harper and wife Miriah, Trenton Harper, Kevin Blosser, great grandchildren, Keith Johnson, Philip Jordan, Zack Johnson, Lanford Johnson, Abby Johnson, Wade Johnson, D.J. Poling, Mike Poling, Madelyn Harper, Hailey Harper, Jarred Harper, Aliyah Harper, Alayna McCauley and Lincoln Daetwyler and great-great grandchildren, Dominic Poling, Damien Poling and Autumn Poling, Gage Wyatt Johnson and Kali Lynn Johnson. Several close nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding her in death were one grandson, Joey Johnson, three brothers, Claude, James Murl and William and four sisters, Ruth, Reta, Rebecca, and Mildred. Mary was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College. She was an elementary school teacher in Randolph County for over twenty five years. She began teaching in one room schools at Fair Hope and King Summit. She later taught fifth and sixth grades at Norton and Coalton Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and hosted the annual Delta Kappa Gamma Lasagna Dinner. She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church at Coalton. She created the Country Corner during the Coalton Spaghetti Dinners and also decorated the Parish Hall. She was a past member of the Extension Homemakers and the Ladies Guild of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she taught Religious Education Classes. She loved cooking, traveling, her flower and herb gardens and also gatherings with her family. Mary’s family always came first. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, March 31st, 2017 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A Wake Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm Friday from the funeral home chapel by Deacon Raymond Godwin. On Saturday, April 1st, 2017, Mrs. Lanford will be moved to St. Patrick Catholic Church at Coalton where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 pm. Fr. Giles Levasseur will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mary Frances Lanford.
