Mona A. Chewning Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mona A. Chewning, age 89 years, born June 5, 1926 at Valley Bend, WV, went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 25, 2015 at 2:05 pm in the Davis Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Worlie Albert and Bertha Knapp Dick. On September 1, 1950 at the Methodist Parsonage in Elkins, Rev. Otis Linger married her to Thurman Ellis Chewning who preceded her in death on October 28, 2006. Surviving are three sons, Charles Chewning and wife Rhonda, East Dailey, Thomas Chewning and wife Alice of Gambrills, MD and Denver Chewning of East Dailey and a grandson Jason Chewning. One brother, Dorsey Dick and wife Mary Ann, Montrose and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Chewning graduated from Tygart Valley High School in 1945. Before marriage, she worked at Montgomery Wards in Elkins. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, working in her flowers, working outside and crocheting as well as reading her bible each day. She was the oldest living member of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church having been a member since March of 1944. She held many positions at the church including treasurer, elder, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and worked on various committees. She had been a member of the Tyrand Cooperative Ministries Board and a representative to the Mountain Valley Parish. She dedicated her life to Christ and his service. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Davis Medical Center for the care Mrs. Chewning received. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 30th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bernard Teter and Rev. William McCallister officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at East Dailey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church, c/o Lois Vanscoy, Dailey, WV 26259.
