Retha Florence George

Retha Florence Currence George, age 87 years, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at her residence. She was born February 11, 1930 at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Peter Jennings and Adie Mae Arbogast Currence. On December 4, 1948 at Highland Park, she was married to Calvin Junior George who survives in Winston-Salem, NC. Also surviving are three sons, David George of Winston-Salem, NC, Paul George of Mechanicsburg, OH and Stephen George of Murfreesboro, TN. Five daughters, Mary McCartney, Whitley City, KY, Martha Pinkston, Fayetteville, NC, Rebecca Nelson, Sheridan, IN, Eunice Wallace of Hixson, TN and Ester Black of Sheridan, IN; three brothers, Lodonald Currence, Beverly, WV, Truman Currence, Elkins and Henry Currence of Beverly; two sisters, Oneta Neighbors of Gore, VA and Judy Herron of Beverly; twenty grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death were one son, John George and four sisters, Luella Collins, Ruth Fortney, Louise Iseli and Orvie Ramsey. Mrs. George was a housewife and attended the Grace Chapel of Somerset, KY. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 16th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. David George and Rev. Wallace Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery near Beverly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hilltop Cemetery, c/o Rev.
