Roger Lee Coffman

Roger Lee Coffman, age 74 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born July 30, 1946 in Elkins, a son of the late William S. and Mary Lee O’Dell Coffman. He was formerly married to Linda May Coffman who resides in Elkins. He was preceded in death on November 1, 2017 by his companion, Cathy Jean Jack. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Layton and husband Stacey G. Layton of Morgantown, WV and Melissa Coffman and husband Bryan Sponaugle of Fairmont, WV; three grandchildren, Dalton and Brooklyn Layton of Morgantown and Eva Grace Sponaugle of Fairmont and one sister-in-law, Betty Coffman of Summersville, WV. Also surviving are his extended family, Bradley Jack and wife Brianna of Elkins, Christina Jack-Johnson and husband Doyle of Beverly and grandchildren, Makenna, Dalton and Brayden Jack. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, William I. “Bill” Coffman and Charles D. “Charlie” Coffman. Roger was a graduate of Elkins High School and a Veteran of the United States Army. He was owner and operator of two service stations in Elkins and Dailey and had also worked at Snowshoe Ski Resort as a shop mechanic. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for Walker Lift Machinery before owning and retiring from RIC Enterprises. He was an avid dirt track race car driver and was a member of the Operators Union. Roger was always on the go and enjoyed helping others. He never knew a stranger, loved talking to people and especially loved his children and grandchildren. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Masks and social distancing will be required for everyone attending the visitation.
