    Roger P. Roy

    July 13, 1947 - December 28, 2019

    Roger P. Roy, age 72 years, a resident of the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV and a former resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born July 13, 1947 at Elkins, a son of the late Lindsey Parker Roy and Mary Smith Roy. Roger is survived by one son, Lindsey Parker “LP” Roy of Elkins and one daughter, Tonya Singleton and husband Scott of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving is one sister, Maxine Roy of Elkins and four grandchildren, Lindsay Roy of Clarksburg, Hannah, Jacob and Cora Singleton all of St. Petersburg, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Parker, Denver, and Ronnie Roy and one sister, Ruth Jordan. Roger was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1965. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He received a drafting degree from Dean Tech and retired from the CSX Railroad where he had worked with the bridge and building maintenance. Roger was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Methodist by faith. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am, Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Roger will then be moved to the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Gary Phillips officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Ave. Suite 400, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 in memory of Roger. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Roger P. Roy. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
