Roy Joseph " Joe" Phillips Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Roy Joseph "Joe" Phillips, age 70 years, a resident of Jimtown, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his home. He was born July 5, 1945 at Jimtown, a son of the late Russell and Reta Broschart Phillips. He was previously married to Julia Lynn Channell who survives. Also surviving is one son, Dennis Allen Phillips and wife Sandy of Jimtown, one daughter, Lori Lea Phillips Newcome and husband Brian of Buckhannon. Four grandchildren, Brittanie Dean and husband Nathan, Whiteman AFB, MO., Paige and Logan Phillips both of Jimtown and Brooke Newcome of Buckhannon, one great granddaughter, Violet Dean, brothers and sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Eubank and husband Gene, Greencastle, IN, Loretta “Ett” Arnold and husband Virgil, Fillmore, IN, Russell “Nick” Phillips and wife Mary of Jimtown, Charles Phillips of Jimtown and Wilda “Sis” Rosier and husband Denver of Elkins, a brother in law, Robert Raines, sister in laws, Ruth Phillips and Maureen"Rennie" Phillips, an uncle, Bob Phillips, two aunts, Mary Lanford and Edna Broschart and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding him in death were one infant son, Joseph Lee Phillips, three brothers, James, Donald and Frances "Brubbie" Phillips and a sister, Mary Lou Raines. Mr. Phillips attended the Coalton School and was employed as an equipment operator in the Timber Industry for many years prior to his retirement. “Poppy”, as he was known by his close family and friends, was an avid gardener. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and throughout his life was surrounded by many special people, including Tom Phillips, Jerald and Donna Taylor, Johnny Miller, and Roy Hedrick. He was a selfless man who always put others before himself. He was a member of the Phillips Chapel Church at Jimtown. At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Interment of the cremains will take place in the Phillips Cemetery near Jimtown.
