    Sandra Wesley Poe

    September 26, 1947 - February 15, 2021

Sandra Wesley Poe, 73, a resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, and more recently of Laurel, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, February 15, 2021, at St. Teresa’s Residence. She had been in declining health, but her death was unexpected. Sandra was the daughter of the late Flor S. and Bernadine (Daniels) Poe, and was born in Spencer, West Virginia on September 26, 1947. She grew up on Chenoweth Creek, and she was a member of the Midland Memorial Presbyterian Church. Sandra attended the schools of Randolph County, and graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1965. After graduation she moved to Maryland, where she worked for the Department of Labor, Division of Fiscal Operations, until her retirement in 2011. She is survived by her sister, Gale Poe, Parsons, West Virginia, a dear friend, Sheila Washington, Landover, Maryland, an aunt, an uncle, and many cousins. Sandra spent many weekends and holidays serving meals to those in acute need in her community. She helped many children and their families who lived in her neighborhood, providing clothes, books, food, and transportation for medical appointments. In addition, Sandra was an advocate for animals, adopting and fostering many unwanted, abandoned pets. In all of her life, it was both passion and calling to be aware of the least, last, and lost. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be given in Sandra’s memory to the humane society of your choice, or to a ministry or program that provides comprehensive care for those in extreme need. Gratitude is extended to St. Teresa’s Residence, Sandra’s guardians, and her caregivers. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Elkins Memorial Gardens (former IOOF Cemetery). Brian Seders, pastor of First United Methodist Church will officiate. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Sandra Wesley Poe. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
